Abstract: This study examines the nature and patterns of Nigeria-Malaysia relations since 1965. Despite the robust relationship between the two countries, the theme ranks among the neglected aspects of Nigeria’s international relations. This study, therefore, provides a deeper insight into the complexities and realities of their relationship to analyse the benefits both countries have derived from the cooperation. The study adopts the historical method. It relies on primary sources such as oral interviews and secondary sources such as journals, books, government documents, academic articles and other online materials. The study has revealed that Nigeria and Malaysia have been cordial. It also discovered that the cooperation focuses more on economic relations than sociopolitical issues. The relationship has been beneficial to both countries. However, the gains from the cooperation have not been fully maximised due to several challenges, such as trade imbalance and transnational crimes, among others. The study recommends that the governments of Nigeria and Malaysia should explore more areas to strengthen their relationship.
